I don’t know about you, but I absolutely LOVE breakfast. For the most part, I keep it simple with eggs, bacon, fruit, and oatmeal. On Sundays, you can pretty much put money on seeing me at The Dream Cafe noshing on their heavenly Cloud Cakes or at The Company Cafe going with the gluten-free option. ** Pancakes should NOT be part of your every day**
I’ll admit, there is a difference between causation and correlation, so take time to do your own research. However, to me, there is no doubt in the power of breakfast and how it improves my day.
In a Japanese study using The Chalder Scale, there was a positive correlation between skipping breakfast and the prevalence of fatigue through an unknown mechanism in the subjects. The poor academic performance, poor attendance, and difficulty of learning the lectures was associated to the lack of proper nutrient intake. Most likely beginning with breakfast.
There are also studies that show skipping breakfast could lead to poor food choices and/or over-eating later in the day in order to meet the body’s nutritional requirements. Over-eating, not “burning” off the calories taken later in the day can lead to those excess calories turning in to excess body fat.
Now, on the positive side, the studies also show that those who started off the day with a happy plate tended to have lower BMI and body fat than their non-eating counterparts. Thus, perhaps proving the theory of dietary induced thermogenesis and increasing metabolic rate.
I know I need to eat in the morning, but I just don’t have time…
